Chaitali Chanda
About Artist
Born in 1977 in West Bengal, Chaitali Chanda is a visionary contemporary artist whose work beautifully bridges the traditional heritage of Bengal with modern artistic expression. Specializing in acrylic on canvas, her paintings are known for their vibrant color palettes, bold brush strokes, and art deco influences. Whether capturing the serene beauty of rural village life or the dynamic energy of urban landscapes, Chaitali’s art tells stories that are both deeply personal and universally resonant.
Her work reflects a unique fusion of cultural narratives—drawing inspiration from Bengal’s rich folk traditions, modern Indian sensibilities, and global art trends. From intimate portraits and expressive figurative compositions to expansive landscapes that evoke the rhythms of everyday life, each piece is a celebration of heritage, innovation, and the transformative power of art.
Chaitali Chanda holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts in painting from the Indian College of Art and Draftsmanship, affiliated with Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata (2002). In 2004, she completed a Gurukul Parichaya Sikshakram program under Rajya Charukala Prasad, Government of West Bengal. The artist has showcased her work in numerous solo exhibitions, including at Somokal Art Gallery in 2008, Bajaj Arts Gallery in Mumbai in 2012, and the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata in 2010 and 2019. Other notable venues for their one-man shows include Gallery Nakshatra in Kolkata (2012), the Convention Center in Delhi (2009), and the Open Palm Court in New Delhi (2011). The artist’s works are in a range of mediums from bronze sculptures to acrylic paintings. Her works often feature themes of femininity and motherhood. She captures the colloquial visual culture of India through her portrayal of rural India and its people, with its crowded markets, lush forestry, and dynamic sights. Chaitali’s sculptures are imbued with a sense of movement and rhythm, and often showcase women in action.
