Douglas John is a Mumbai based artist whose career spans years of experience as art practitioner, teacher and researcher lending a significant and questioning approach to a phenomenon of space and time. His works invites us to live between transition and destiny. Inner Divinity gestures to the active dialogues and stillness that at dwells within us.
John’s visual narration depicts about dealing spirituality with a philosophical theory of aesthetics and art involving a mystical conception of Beauty in its ethical and metaphysical forms. Here the human relationship with the divine attribute of Beauty becomes more significant and the aesthetics of the spirit translates to an art of contemplation. His paintings present an idea, without explaining much about it, that the perception of divine Beauty produces a state of intimacy and expansion in the viewer.
John’s paintings depict two important energies – Majestic and Beauty. It appears that the artist has the authority to speak about these mystical realities through his first-hand experience. A good level of understanding that propers to a specific spiritual rank only can correspond to a particular form of expression at this level. Douglas essentially reorganises the concept of ‘light’ to explore his life and soul landscape.
John’s paintings have a unique visual narration about the Divine Beauty which is manifested as Divine Power in each and every soul. It is the power of the wisdom that is of both the outer and inner life. The white and gold present an intense thirst to dissolve the physical realm and transcend into the spiritual universe. John’s work reflects a good mix of the traditional culture concept blend with contemporary application techniques.
