Mukesh Sah
(b.1968, Uttarakhand) is a self-taught multidisciplinary visual artist. Having spent his formative years amidst nature, the mountains, forests, and rivers became the dominant subject of his paintings and sculptures. Their ruthless exploitation and destruction, however, compelled the artist to view them from a different perspective; not mere landscapes but abstract forms of laterally dissected “landmasses,” sans human presence. There are craggy, fragmented peaks, rivers, and water bodies precariously trying to cling to each other. Etched geometric lines or embossed abstract forms bring out a catharsis for the scars and painful stories that lie beneath them. Yet, the mountains in particular stand tall and majestic, reaching out to the skies in their graceful forgiveness for erring humanity.
Sah pursued his art practice after completing his studies at the University of Allahabad. He held his first solo show in Allahabad in 1995, and has participated in multiple group shows and workshops over the years including 6th edition of Together 2023 in Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi (2023), AIFACS Annual Digital Art Show, New Delhi (2019) and the Sahitya Kala Parishad’s group show in Lalit Kala Akademi International Art Fair, New Delhi (2018) among others.
