Nityam Singha Roy
(B. 1978) | Dinajpur, West Bengal
Nityam Singha Roy is a self-taught artist from Dinajpur, West Bengal. He is known for his richly coloured compositions depicting scenes and characters from Hindu mythology and folklore.
Roy’s works draw inspiration from a range of sources relevant to his upbringing in West Bengal. His paintings make frequent references to traditional Bengali culture and art, from the stories recounted by his mother to the artistic traditions he learnt from Bishnupur and Shantiniketan. He also takes inspiration from his own reflections on nature, life and mythology. He uses subjects such as the bird and the horse to communicate the values of freedom, independence and strength – ideals that he considers to be central to his development as an artist.
The artist works in Mumbai and New Delhi.
