B. 1980, Ajmer
My father was an artist. I grew up seeing my father put his artistic elements in various projects, from textiles to hotels. I grew up being surrounded by art and textiles as my grandmother had a printing unit in the 70 s, and I used a lot of her wooden blocks in my artworks and textiles. I belong to a region called Shekhawati, which is known for its frescoes. The colour palette of the fresco paintings is also my work of art. My work is inspired by and reflects my everyday life. The inspiration of the works is present in the portrayal of my thoughts, which are influenced by vivid dreams, books, nature and people. The medium used comprises the use of diverse motifs such as prints from wooden blocks, bindis, ink, thread, gouache, oil pastel on paper, canvas and cloth.
“Mushroom in the City”
This series of work is based on a short story I read called “Mushroom in the City” by Italo Calvino. It explores the human desire for a connection with nature in the face of urbanisation. It reflects on the importance of preserving our relationship with the natural world in an increasingly urbanized society.
