Shishir Bhatt

Shishir Bhatt has an uncanny knack of presenting everyday objects infused them with a sense of the unreal. “When I look at things around me, my imagination transforms them into almost mythical objects,” and this vision combined with an eye for detail makes his works interesting representations of the banal. His recent ink drawings are an interesting interplay of the human form along with architecture, animal forms and text. A self-taught artist, born in 1965, Shishir Bhatt started his career as a miniature artist, explaining his penchant for extreme detailing. His current series of ink drawings on handmade paper effectively essay this inclination. His sketches show a rare textural format and lyrical line movement. Bhatt has worked as a full-time painter since 1980, and his work has been featured in many shows both in India and internationally. During 2007-2008, he has added to his repertoir solo shows in New Delhi, Ahmedabad and Indore. His works are in the collection of the White House and many other private collections in India and abroad.
